The aim of the EPD programme is to assist the beginning teacher to develop and consolidate his/her capability as a reflective practitioner in the classroom .

At this stage the emphasis will be on the development of the ‘c’ and ‘C’ competences. A range of courses will be provided for the personal and professional development of the participants. Over a 2 year period, Beginning Teachers are asked to complete two discrete professional development activities (PDAs) which focus on teaching and learning and include educational technology (ET) to support learning .

Teacher Tutors are encouraged to avail of the training and development programme in aspects of the management and co-ordination of the EPD process.

Substitute cover days are available at no cost to schools to facilitate attendance at courses and school-based development activities.
