  • To address underachievement.
  • To assist schools in the formulation and review of their whole-school policy for numeracy.
  • To assist schools in analysing pupil performance in Mathematics with a view to continuous school improvement.
  • To assist schools in setting and meeting targets.
Teachers
  • To enhance the quality of Mathematics teaching.
  • To increase the awareness of teachers of the contribution which numeracy can make to each curriculum area and vice versa.
  • To assist teachers in enabling pupils to become 'confident and competent written and oral mathematicians'.
  • To assist teachers in making appropriate use of ICT to promote numeracy.
  • To assist Beginning Teachers to develop the knowledge and strategies required for the effective teaching of numeracy.
