It is part of the Government's aim to use ICT more effectively in supplying teachers and learners with high quality electronic and digital support materials, particularly in the development of e_mail and video conferencing.

Current information and communication technology should be able to 'support, enhance, and extend' the development of more effective teaching and learning in MFL quite effectively.

Benefits:

According to Sonia Jurich (MAPE Focus on MFL, Newman College, 2003), ICT promotes:

Multi-sensory stimuli
-
Visual, auditory, and kinaesthetic
-
Speaking / listening / reading / writing
Motivation
-
Various types of activity to maintain interest (able to cater for differing styles of learning)
Collaborative learning
-
Fluency developed through group learning
Cultural Understanding
-
Bridging physical and cultural distances
Self-expression
-
Exploring and developing creativity

When given the facilities and the right environment, young learners seem particularly adept at making posters, passports, quizzes, reports and comics using digital cameras, video clips of their own scenarios, adding own dialogues, e-mailing children in other schools around the world, video conferencing, working with each other, being creative, etc. - basically at putting their own learning to authentic use.

Language Games Box

(French / Spanish / TESOL)

Review: "Makes usual classroom games look much more professional, and gives teachers ideas for varying revision activities and introducing humour and fun into practice sessions. Very reasonably priced for a product which could be used for every single lesson in some way."

Contains many 5 to 10 minute activities suitable for pairwork or as a whole class activity, and over 20 games (most of which can be used in different ways).
