A
complete range of BBC and ITV television and radio programmes is
available on loan from theAudio-Visual Unit at SELB Library Headquarters
to all teachers. For Modern Language teachers the Audio Visual Recording
Service records news bulletins in five languages. The bulletins
are suitable for classroom study and may be used to demonstrate
aspects of the language in a spoken context. The AVRS will start
recording each language from early September through to May and
each 5 weeks from early October will send a video cassette with
5 programmes on it to the individual school. The school will use
the tapes and return them all in June at the latest.
While this is
a loan service schools may purchase instead of borrowing tapes
Please note AVRS will not supply a transcript of the broadcasts.
The AVRS has
been recording TG4 Nuacht on Mondays.
The video recordings
match worksheets in Irish which can be found at www.may.ie/language
(on
the Home Page click on Vif@x)
The AVRS will
dispatch 7 tapes per school - approximately once a month during
the school year- the recordings dispatched will include 3 Mondays
and 2 other days. All Monday broadcasts will be retained during
term time.
The AVRS records French TV5, German ZDF, Spanish TVE and Italian
RAI Uno. These recordings are available on the same basis as TG4.
If a teacher
would like to buy an individual video tape they should contact the
AVU.(avrs.selb@ni.libraries.net)
