.Pupils are 'on career' from the time they enter school. This page has been created to support teachers of home economics as they seek to produce evidence of the contribution that the study of home economics makes to the employability and lifelong learning of the young person.

Home Economics is an integrated subject where the study of family life, diet and health, choice and management of resources, is experienced through both practical and theoretical approaches.Effective skills, attitudes and talents for life and work are developed by studying the management of human and material resources for the benefit of individuals, the family and society.

Will the study of home economics lead to employment? - perhaps

Will the study of home economics increase the opportunities for employability ? - definitely!

Exciting opportunities for employment across a range of directly associated jobs and careers can develop from the skills and qualifications gained through the study of Home Economics. Of more importance however in society today, is the relevence of this subject to the development of the skills, qualities and talents that contribute towards making the young person employable.

1. Discover the skills of employability and how these can be developed.

2. Develop an awareness of the world of work through the Key Stage 3 Programme of study.

3. Find out what vocational area might suit you best. .

4. Find out how the study of home economics at key stge 4 will contribute towards job prospects

5. Find out how the study of home economics - child development at key stage 4 will contribute towards job prospects.

6. Explore the options available to those who leave school following GCSE and CoEA - job skills.

7. Reasons why AS and A level home economics is a great course

8. Find out about full-time courses relating to home economics that are available after GCSE.

9. Find out about related certificate, diploma and degree courses available after leaving school / age 18

10. Follow a career in Home Economics - become a home economist in industry, become a home economics teacher.
