Railway exhibition suitable for upper primary classes

Armagh County Museum is delighted to stage ‘All Change’ - a colourful exhibition which takes teachers and pupils on a journey looking at the social impact railways had on ordinary people’s lives. The story of the railways is told through the use of objects, display panels and paintings, with a special emphasis on County Armagh. Lamps, tickets and timetables sit alongside a superb working model of a railway, made specially for the exhibition. If you would like to book a visit please contact Sarah on ph. 028 37 523070. The exhibition begins on the 4 October 2004 – 19 February 2005.
Admission is free (please note that it is only possible to accommodate one class at a time, for further details see here)

Dissemination of good practice

St John’s Primary School Eglish are currently producing some excellent work on their locality by examining the importance of Annaghmore Railway station. Already the primary sevens have produced an exciting PowerPoint presentation and other classes will be producing materials which will be put up on the school website. Watch this space to find out how the pupils progress.

Trading Places / Create

Ballydown Primary school and St. Coleman’s Lawrencetown are currently representing SELB in a project organised by County Cavan Council and CREATE. The project is sponsored by Kids own Publishing Partnership and unites teachers, children and artists in the study of linen in Ireland using geography, history and art as contexts. Already pupils from both schools have produced some excellent work after artists worked alongside them in their own schools and both teachers and pupils have been involved in training in new forms of media. This exciting project will carry for another two years and if you would like more information or would like to view samples of pupils work visit here

The Irish Famine Walls Project

Click here to view some excellent work on an ICT project organised by Mark Vallelly Principal of Killyea Primary School. The project centres on the villages of Caledon, Glaslough, and Tynan and their surrounding areas. Killylea Primary school co-ordinated this inter schools, cross community ICT project and they used £25000 prize money which they won in by entering the proposal for the project an a BT Schools Award competetion last year. This allowed for five schools to use online technologies to collaboratively produce material for a web-based resource also available on CD-Rom for all schools in N.Ireland to use as a teaching resource. Contact Killylea primary school for details on how to obtain your free CD-Rom.
