Key Stage 3

History is a compulsory subject at Key Stage 3 in the Northern Ireland curriculum. At this level all pupils follow a Programme of study produced by The Department of Education. The learning experiences provided, build upon those gained from the study of history in the primary school.

Pupils have the opportunity to develop an understanding of the culture, economy, politics and society of Ireland in the context of Britain and Europe and where appropriate, the wider world from the early Middle Ages to the twentieth century.

Key Stage 4

At this level schools decide which examining board and which syllabus, to offer their pupils.

Post 16

Detailed specifications and support materials for GCE Advanced Level and AS level History syllabuses are available directly from the examining body.

Edexcel provide GCE specifications for History. Update, Specifications, Exemplar assessment material, Teacher guide and Student Guide are available from Edexcel

AQA also produce CSE specifications in History. Full details and support materials are available directly from AQA

OCR also have advanced, CSE specifications for History. Details can be acessed directly from OCR

CCEA specifications for AS and A level History and support materials are available directly from CCEA
