The study of Classical Civilisation and Ancient History provides the student with opportunities to examine the history, culture, architecture, literature, archaeology and art of the classical worlds of Greece and Rome.

Greece and Rome are not just any old cultures, they are the foundations on which our own civilisation was built. The basis of modern European and American culture was shaped by events in fifth century Greece and in the Roman Empire between the second century BC and fourth century AD.

It is the quality and quantity of source material that makes Greek and Roman history different from modern history. By studying ancient material, students can feel that the shaping of history is in their hands. They can make their own analysis and their own theories. In so doing they develop key skills including critical thinking skills, not only necessary to pass A level but for lifelong learning.
