| Development and Dissemination of Good Practice
funding enabled the piloting of a Story Sacks Project in the
Spring/Summer Term 2003.
‘Story Sacks’ are sets of resources developed
around a children’s book. The colourful sacks contain
a picture book and a related non-fiction text, toys and games
and a set of activities from which teacher or parent can select
in order to develop the interest of the child. These materials
have been found to be successful in developing the interest
and involvement of young readers in texts. They are being
used in KS1 classrooms and can be taken home for further exploration
by parents.
A small group of teachers worked with members of the Literacy
Team to discover the potential of the resources. They then
spent some time creating their own story sacks.
